The Rock has suddenly become a hot topic in the wrestling world again. He’s part of a storyline featuring Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns and WrestleMania.
The original plan appeared to be The Rock vs. Reigns. However, an outpouring of support for Rhodes and allowing him to “finish his story” looks like it altered WWE’s direction.
During a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” the Rock had a message for the vocal section of Rhodes fans.
“I love Cody,” The Rock said. “I love his passionate fans. Then there’s the other passionate fans of Cody, and they’re called the Cody crybabies…Those Cody crybabies, the ones with every 10 tweets they’re shoving a chicken McNugget in their mouth. For every 20 tweets they’re shoving two McNuggets up their a–, The Rock says this. All you gotta do is sit back, know your role, shut your mouth, and enjoy the ride that The Rock is gonna take your candy a—- on.”
The Rock’s ability to thrive as either a face or a heel is part of what makes him such a special talent. He knows how to work a crowd. He understands the difference between being the bad guy and being the baby face. He changes his attitude depending on how the fans are treating him during specific moments.
However, it’s been a long time since we were treated to a consistent storyline with The Rock as a vital part. Cody Rhodes is among the most popular wrestlers on the planet.
The Rock will need to navigate his part of this story with all the charisma he can muster. He returned to the WWE to make history and help elevate the company. His first few weeks haven’t disappointed.
There has been a different feel to WWE programming since the turn of the year. The promos have an edgy feel and there’s a bigger focus on in-ring production.
As the company continues to raise the bar, we’re undoubtedly going to get some memorable moments. It would appear that The Rock will be front and center in some of those, especially if Rhodes is part of that storyline.
Bring on the road to WrestleMania.
